MEU Tallinn 2017 was held from July 22 until July 28, 2017. The 6th edition of MEU Tallinn took place as a part of the Estonian Presidency in the Council of the EU. Event gathered almost 80 participants from 24 European countries.
Three proposals were discussed, following the three main themes of the Digital Single Market, the European Defence Cooperation and the European Pillar of Social Rights. The following proposals were amended and voted during the simulation:
- A regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on addressing geo-blocking and other forms of discrimination based on customers’ nationality, place of residence or place of establishment within the internal market and amending Regulation (EC) No 2006/2004 and Directive 2009/22/EC (COMPET);
- The EU global strategy in the areas of security and defence (FAC)
- A directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on work-life balance for parents and carers and repealing Council Directive 2010/EU (EPSCO).
A panel discussion was organised on the topic “How will the Internet affect the way in which we are governed?”, with the kind participation of Innar Liiv (Associate Professor in Data Science, Tallinn University of Technology), Liis Rebane (Head of Estonian Cyber Security Policy in the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications), Margus Mägi (Adviser for EU Secretariat at Government Office of Estonia).
